R.I.P. My Dear Big Red

:(
Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, and such is the case today with my suitcase.  It broke a few weeks ago on my way home from Budapest.  Until I went to throw it out today, I didn't realize that I actually am a bit emotionally attached to Big Red.

Five years ago my parents bought me a fairly expensive luggage set for my big move to college.  These dark red suitcases have helped me move a countless number of times.  Big Red moved me across the Atlantic Ocean twice, to DC for summer internships twice, and probably a dozen times between Central Michigan and home.

Big Red has transported my clothing on visits to  Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Latvia, and Lithuania three times.  Not to mention the many domestic trips I've taken back in the States and in Poland.

I tried counting the number of plane rides Big Red has accompanied me on...and figure ballpark is 50.  Over five years, he's been around the world and back with me.   I know exactly how to pack for optimal space, I even can guestimate how much my bag ways fairly accurately before a flight.

That last part has me a bit nervous for my upcoming three week trip because I'm not entirely sure how heavy my new suitcase is in comparison to Big Red.  Hopefully my guestimations of heaviness will be accurate because budget airlines do not take fondly to overweight bags.

The 10 year warranty offered by the manufacturer is only good for defects, not normal wear and tear.  And given this guy's travel history, it's safe to say that he's just worn out!
